I've been following and admiring the mission of Ecosia for the last 15 years.
A little start up with the goal to heal our planet by planting trees all over the globe.
Funding their mission through a search engine that facilitates the users to be part of a change in the world by helping to plant a tree with each search.
Since the start of their journey, the company has continuously grown and expanded their projects throughout different sectors of renewable energy and innovation.

While keeping a promising path of growth and influence, the company has sold over 90% of their stocks to a non profit organization, to prevent that the company can be sold, or  it's mission be corrupted by profitable interests of stakeholders.

Through this project I wanted to create more awareness, help to spread the word about Ecosia's mission, the way they keep gaining trust through their actions and transparency and be part of this beautiful endeavor beyond the regular use of their search engine.
Ecosia had just announced that they accomplished to be listed as one of the default browsers when setting up your new phone. A huge progress for the company since the launch of the browser was just prior to the announcement. A values-led company breaking into space usually held by ad-revenue giants.
When using Ecosia, every browser tab is an effortless action that sets real change in motion. Whether from the comfort of one's home, or being on the move, browsing with Ecosia has a direct positive impact on our environment and our future. This idea became the film's emotional engine, and the thing every other decision, visual, structural, and technical, was built to serve.
Rather than one linear explainer, the film is built as interchangeable modules connected through effortless and continuous motion. Each module works as a standalone piece, representing and explaining one of the main pillars of Ecosia. This allows to reassemble elements and create a set of ready-made social assets from a single production. This was a deliberate structural decision made early, before a single frame was illustrated, because it changes what the client can do with the work.
Before committing to a direction, I built a moodboard testing tone, how graphic vs. organic, how realistic the characters should feel, what color and texture could carry the "digital meets real-world" idea. Characters went through rough sketches, then clean line, then final color, with proportions kept natural and grounded while the palette and shading pushed toward something more simplified and hopeful.
Thanks for watching.
