Back when I was working at American Express Meetings & Events, I had the pleasure of creating an incentive travel experience for Mini’s top sales performers. The destination: La Réunion, a lush, volcanic island in the Indian Ocean with a personality all its own.
The travel team gave us the itinerary, hotels, and activities. Our job was to build a visual world around it. What made this one different was the destination itself: La Réunion is wild, tropical, and dramatic – a strong visual statement. We didn’t want to overpower it with design, nor did we want to disappear into the background. The quiet challenge was to let the island’s natural beauty lead, while still giving the trip a clear, cohesive identity that felt like Mini.
Together with a media designer and a copywriter, I approached it gently. I illustrated the key visual, handled video editing, and guided the media designer in shaping the collaterals. The copywriter and I developed the event concept presentation (itinerary, hotels, activities, location) as well as the presentation of our design work.
We ended up with the usual family of materials: Save the Date, winner announcements, luggage tags, itinerary brochures, branded clothing, and a short teaser video.
